Day 61: Friday 22/06/2012
Great news: the leak in his oesophagus has healed up nicely so we are right back on track. It is such a hugh relief to hear that he got over this hurdle all by himself. Sergio went down to the operating room at 11am and was back in his room by 12:45pm. Buenas noticias: la fuga de su esófago ha sanado muy bien y a Sergio lo tenemos de vuelta en el ruedo. Es un gran alivio el saber que consiguió superar este obstáculo por sí mismo. Sergio bajó a la sala de operaciones a las 11 y estaba de vuelta en su habitación las 12:45 pm.

Sergio was much more alert today and is in good shape ahead of tomorrow’s planned oesophagogastroduodenoscopy. He was rewarded for his good progress with some cuddle time from his daddy in a high chair. It was the first time in well over a month that he was allowed out of his bed for cuddles. It was a precious bonding moment. His leg fracture appears to be healing well as it’s no longer causing him much pain when touched or moved slightly. The EA team have scheduled another oesphagram for this coming Friday. During this procedure they will be able to check if Sergio’s leak has healed up by itself. Sergio has had another good day overall today. The main news to report from today is that his eyes are beginning to track once again, so obviously this has helped put him in good spirits when awake. With no procedures or scans planned for today, Sergio took the opportunity to chill out and catch up on some decent sleep. His morphine and methadone levels were readjusted and that pretty much left him feeling and looking fairly spaced out. Sergio was weighted today and he is more or less the same weight as before the coma. He got to sit up in his new tumble chair in the afternoon but instantly dosed off to sleep. Another good day of recovery for Sergio. He got a new cast for his fractured leg and was very brave when it was being put on. The morphine definitely helped him through it. He loves being awake now and is always playing with his toys. Sergio forgot to take his siesta today as he was too busy making noise with his rattle while he cheered on Ireland as they played their last Euro game. He has plenty of more cheering to do now for the Spanish team over the next few weeks. Otro dia bueno de recuperación para Sergio.
