During the night Sergio’s nurse noticed that he was in real pain when she changed his nappy. It turns out that he has fractured his right leg above the knee. It’s unfortunate news and only adds to his current discomfort. A splint cast has been put around it for now. It is common for EA babies to get fractures because on the amount of time they stay in the same position whilst in a coma.
On the brighter side, we received some good news about the leak in his oesophagus. They found that the small leak was just a slight vertical split and should heal up nicely by itself thus not requiring to go back for surgical repair. They are going to give it two weeks to heal. The airway team also had an examination of his tracheomalacia and upper airwave. His vocal chords are thankfully responsive once again and they explained how they could possibly treat his tracheomalacia in the future.
Durante la noche, la enfermera de Sergio se dio cuenta de que estaba en verdadero dolor cuando le cambió el pañal. Resulta que se habia fracturado la pierna derecha por encima de la rodilla. Es una noticia mala otra vez y sólo se suma a su malestar actual. Por ahora se puso una férula alrededor de ella. Es común que los bebés EA tengan fracturas debido a la cantidad de tiempo que permanecen en la misma posición, en estado de coma.
Por otro lado, hemos recibido algunas buenas noticias acerca de la fuga en su esófago. Los cirujanos han visto que la pequeña fuga es solo una división vertical ligera y podria cicatrizar muy bien por sí sola, por lo que no se requiere volver a hacer una reparación quirúrgica. Se va a dar dos semanas para sanar. El equipo que se encarga de las vías respiratorias también ha examinado su traqueomalacia y abertura superior en la traquea. Sus cuerdas vocales responden, afortunadamente una vez más, ademas de explicarme como podian tratar su traqueomalacia en un futuro.
I really hope Sergio gets better when he’s back to Ireland. Can’t wait to see him.
