It was confirmed today by the Doctors that the infection that Sergio had in his abdomen was peritonitis. This rare infection was the cause of Sergio’s acute abdominal pain over the past week. Now that it has been identified, the hope is that the course of the antibiotics will be enough to treat and isolate the problem thus corrective surgery will be avoided. We are unsure at the moment as to how the infection came about but needless to say it has caused a setback in his recovery. Sergio was heavily sedated throughout the day to relieve his pain and only opened his eyes briefly. His heart rate was high too.
In the afternoon we were all cheered up when a package of beautiful handmade cards arrived from all of Sergio’s friends in the Transitional Care Unit back home in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. The adorable cards made by the patients brought back very fond memories of the wonderful families and staff that we got to know so well in this small ward where Sergio spent most of his life. Thanks again to Cayden, Jayden, Jovelyn, Liam and Anna for the lovely cards and also special thanks to Christine and Maria for organising the package. Go raibh mile maith agaibh go leir.
Se confirmo hoy por los médicos que la infección que Sergio tenía en su abdomen es peritonitis. Esta rara infección fue la causa del dolor abdominal agudo de Sergio en la última semana. Ahora que ya ha sido identificado, la esperanza es que el curso de los antibióticos sea suficiente para tratar y aislar el problema para evitar la cirujia correctiva. No estamos seguros en este momento como se produjo la infección, pero no hace falta decir que se ha provocado un retroceso en su recuperación. Sergio fue sedado durante todo el día para aliviar su dolor y sólo abrió los ojos brevemente. Su ritmo cardiaco ha sido alto tambien hoy.
Por la tarde nos alegró a todos cuando un conjunto de hermosas tarjetas hechas a mano llegaron de todos los amigos de Sergio desde la unidad de cuidados transicional en “Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital” en Dublin, Crumlin. Las adorables tarjetas hechas por los pacientes nos trajo muy buenos recuerdos de las maravillosas familias y el personal que llegamos a conocer tan bien en esta habitacion pequeña donde Sergio pasó la mayor parte de su vida. Gracias de nuevo a Cayden y Jayden, Jovelyn, Liam y Anna por las hermosas tarjetas , y también un agradecimiento especial a Cristina y María por organizar el envio. Gracias a todos.
