We received a phone call early this morning from the hospital informing me that Sergio wasn’t well and that he had a rough night. His heart rate was extremely high and his belly was even more bloated. The doctors decided that Sergio would have to have an operation to remove the fluid buildup in his abdomen. When we came in to see Sergio, he was in a lot of pain despite getting more pain relief medication during the night. The surgeons performed the procedure in his room and were able to remove a lot of fluid which was then sent for Lab analysis. The swelling in his stomach immediately came down. The doctors now believe that an infection may have been the root cause of Sergio’s fluid buildup which caused him much discomfort. His ventilator settings were increased to help him breath better and also they have increased the dosage of his medication. Three different types of antibiotics were started to help fight this infection. Yet another rough day for poor little Sergio.
Esta mañana recibimos una llamada telefonica del hospital informandome de que Sergio no estaba bien y que habia pasado una mala noche. Su frecuencia cardíaca era extremadamente alta y su vientre estaba aún más hinchado. Los médicos decidieron que Sergio tendría que someterse a una operación para eliminar la acumulación de líquido en el abdomen. Cuando fuimos a ver a Sergio, estaba con gran dolor a pesar de haber recibido más medicación para aliviarle durante la noche. Los cirujanos realizaron el procedimiento en su habitación y fueron capaces de sacar una gran cantidad de líquido que posteriormente se envió para análizar en el laboratorio. La hinchazón en el estómago de inmediato bajo. Los médicos creen ahora que una infección puede haber sido la causa de la acumulación de líquido de Sergio que le esta causando todo el malestar. Los parámetros del ventilador se incrementaron para ayudarlo a respirar mejor y también aumentaron la dosis de su medicamento. Ahora tres tipos diferentes de antibióticos le estan dando para ayudar a combatir esta infección. Hoy ha sido otro día difícil para el pobre Sergio.
