The surgical team contacted us late this evening to inform us that they have a cancellation space for theatre time tomorrow and now plan to take the opportunity to redo Sergio’s nissen fundoplication for the third time. The news came as a complete surprise to us but we were delighted to hear that the surgeon, Dr. Foker will be in attendance in the theatre. It’s a big operation for Sergio but the doctors feel that the time is right to go ahead with it. He has been in good spirits for well over a week and so is in good shape for tomorrow’s big day. It’s quite remarkable the rate in which Sergio is recovering his former strength and mobility. He was in brilliant form all day today. We received a wonderful treat today from the ICU team as they kindly organized for Sergio to go visit the garden for an hour in the afternoon. It’s the first time since Sergio arrived in Boston that he has been allowed outside for fresh air and he loved every minute of it. He was a bit taken back when in first contact with the sun in his eyes but once in the shade, he was smiling and laughing with Mammy the whole time. He was also amazed to see all...

Sergio has a small leak around his trach tubing and so as a result he is able to make noises through his vocal chords for the first time ever. He definitely loves the sound of his new voice and didn’t go to sleep at all during the day as he was too busy purring to himself and making some really beautiful noises. It was like he wanted to show off his new trick to everybody. The ORL team came by to check to see if this new leak was safe.
